CSAA’s broad aims are to develop the study, teaching and public profile of Cultural Studies throughout Australasia.
The Cultural Studies Association of Australia was established in 1992, and in 2002 became the Cultural Studies Association of Australasia.
As well as supporting some of Australia’s most interesting and cross-disciplinary humanities conferences, the CSAA hosts regular online activities through the year. Our conferences, seminars and posts feature members’ work on current events, questions, interventions, and debates.
We perform various services, including the register of abstracts of recent Cultural Studies theses, and the listings of current projects and recently published books by our members.
The CSAA actively works to promote and develop Cultural Studies teaching, research and related scholarship, as well as provide advice and leadership on Cultural Studies related matters to community, industry and government.

Promote & Develop Cultural Studies through enhancing teaching and scholarship in Cultural Studies, advancing cultural studies research and advocating for Cultural Studies in academic, industrial, and governmental contexts.

Foster Community & Support through developing networks of Cultural Studies scholars, as well as mentoring and support Cultural Studies students.

Engage Publicly & Represent by organising public events, including an annual conference representing our field in media and public forums, and acting as a national voice on cultural issues.

Cultivate International Connections by promoting links with international Cultural Studies organizations.

Ensure Effective Operations by conducting all necessary activities to achieve the association’s objectives effectively.
Continuum: Journal of Media & Cultural Studies
Continuum is an academic journal of media and cultural studies, affiliated with the CSAA. For almost four decades, the journal has contributed to the formation of these disciplines by identifying new areas for investigation and developing new agendas for enquiry in the fields. The journal has consistently provided a space for important new voices in media and cultural studies, while also featuring the work of internationally renowned scholars. Continuum is now one of the most highly regarded and most cited journals in media and cultural studies.
